A vote on strike action by aircraft mechanics working for Icelandair began on Friday. Icelandair's CEO says it is a serious matter that occupational groups can effectively shut down the country through strike action if their demands are not met in wage negotiations. The collective agreement between Flugvirkjafélag Íslands (Icelandic Aircraft Mechanics' Association) and Icelandair expired at the end of 2025. The agreement had been in force since the beginning of 2021. Negotiations on a new agreement have been under way without success for more than a year. The dispute was referred to the State Mediator in February. Icelandair's collective agreements with its pilots and cabin crew have also expired. The association's chair declined to give RÚV an interview on Saturday. Icelandair: labour market model is unsustainable Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair, says the company has offered Flugvirkjafélag Íslands (Icelandic Aircraft Mechanics' Association) pay rises in line with those on the general labour market. "But they are making demands that go far beyond that." Bogi says the Icelandic economy cannot sustain such large pay rises because of high interest rates and inflation. He wants t

Sarah Cooper-Lesadd says party is ‘far more interested in division, opposition and headlines than finding solutions’ Leader of Reform UK in Wales stands down after arrest on suspicion of assault The Liberal Democrats have said that they will try to introduce a cap on the amount people donate to political parties by amending the representation of the people bill as it goes through the Lords. Lisa Smart, the Lib Dem Cabinet Office spokesperson, said: We can’t keep playing whack-a-mole with each new attempt by Farage to sell out our democracy. Labour’s residency requirements aren’t good enough and the Conservatives simply sat on their hands whilst in power. For decades governments of both colours have stood by and done nothing. The scale of donations made to Reform in recent days is unprecedented in British politics and should deeply concern anyone who cares about the health and integrity of our democracy. We cannot afford to see the Americanisation of our politics, with out of control political spending, funded by stratospheric sums of crypto and corporate cash. These donations show clearly whose side Reform are on, with crypto billionaires, foreign and powerful corporate interests l
Hong Kong aims to achieve new breakthroughs in its economic development and push the Northern Metropolis development, the city’s first five-year plan revealed. The blueprint released on Wednesday said Hong Kong will consolidate and enhance its status as international financial, maritime, and trade centres and an international aviation hub, while expediting the city’s development into an international innovation and technology centre and a hub for high‑calibre talent.
